Governor Signs Bill to Expand Child Care Services for Working Families
SACRAMENTO – Today Assemblymember Anna Caballero (D-Salinas) announces that Governor Brown has signed Assembly Bill AB 300. This bill will give working families more options for quality childcare and will diminish the hardship families face when they struggle to find affordable child care.
The bill allows subsidy pilot programs in Monterey, San Benito, Santa Clara and Santa Cruz Counties to give local control and flexibility to change income eligibility guidelines for families to serve more children and offer higher reimbursement rates to providers in the region.
“Today is a great day for working families in our region. AB 300 will provide real benefits to families in need of quality child care services. The region previously returned close to $2.5 million back to the state, this bill will now allow the full utilization of their child care allocation money to serve more children and help child care providers stay in business. Increasing access to quality child care is the best and smartest investment we can make for the future of our children and communities,” said Assemblymember Caballero.
AB 300 was sponsored by First 5 Monterey County and the Monterey, Santa Cruz, and San Benito Local Child Care Planning Councils.
Assemblymember Anna M. Caballero is the Chair of the Agriculture committee, of the California State Assembly. She represents the 30th District, composed of the Salinas Valley, San Benito County, South Santa Clara County, and the city of Watsonville.
