Dawn Digest: August 2025 Updates
With summer recess almost over, I've spent time across the Central Coast connecting with constituents, attending community events and hearing about our challenges and opportunities. These conversations guide my work in the Capitol and ensure your priorities remain front and center when the Legislature reconvenes.
With care,

Sustainable Insurance Strategy: Moving Forward
I've been working diligently to improve California's insurance market. From coordinating a Central Coast-specific briefing for our Central Coast Caucus to attending numerous oversight hearings, I've advocated on your behalf every step of the way. We must bring insurers back to California and ensure people have access to the level of insurance they need. Find out more about what's happening by watching my insurance town hall below.

A few days ago, California Insurance Commissioner Ricardo Lara, California Fire Marshal Daniel Berlant, and United Policyholders Executive Director Amy Bach joined me to provide the latest updates and address pressing issues surrounding homeowners' insurance in California. I’m grateful for my staff’s work coordinating this event and hope attendees received practical takeaways.

2025 Women in California Leadership Minerva Scholarship Recipients
As one of the first women to represent the Central Coast in the State Assembly, I know that investing in women means investing in communities. As a California Legislative Women's Caucus member, I am excited to announce the recipients of the Minerva Scholarship Program.
Rosalinda Barrios Chavez is a community volunteer. She serves as a child advocate with Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) of Monterey County and assists patients at the Carol Hatton Breast Care Center. 2025 Central Coast Caucus Foundation Impact Scholarship Recipients
As the inaugural Chair of the California Legislative Central Coast Caucus, I am excited to congratulate the 2025 Central Coast Caucus Foundation Impact Scholarship recipients. This scholarship program supports the educational goals of students from California's Central Coast, spanning Santa Cruz, Monterey, San Luis Obispo, Santa Barbara and Ventura counties and was created to uplift the region's next generation of leaders. The program provides financial assistance to help students pursue higher education and make a lasting impact in their communities.
Gina Guzman, as President of the Cabrillo College California Student Nurse Association and a mentor to nursing students, continues to lead through service. Gina plans to pursue their Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) at California State University Monterey Bay and remain in the tri-county area, continuing their commitment to improving access to care for those most in need.
Delia "Ozzy" Pidd, a San Luis Obispo High School graduate, will attend Cal Poly San Luis Obispo this fall to study marine sciences. An advanced scuba diver, Delia has contributed to kelp restoration projects on Catalina Island and explored California's diverse marine ecosystems. Delia aspires to achieve a career in marine conservation or field research, specializing in elasmobranchs.

It was an honor to speak again at the Leadership South County Government Day! I was impressed by the in-depth questions and interest in both the legislative process and my pathway to being your representative. Class VI is a phenomenal group and I look forward to working with these leaders as their journey continues.
Monterey County
Bryan, Tony and I are standing outside under a black and white striped umbrella.
I enjoyed lunch with Tony Uzzle and Bryan Shields from Nor Cal Carpenters Union Local 646. As a third-generation union member, I know that organized labor created the American middle class. High-road construction jobs are one of the few pathways from poverty to prosperity, and I'm grateful to the workers who build California.
Santa Cruz County
I took a selfie with Rachel and Jenni inside the coffee shop.
Recently I visited local businesses and spoke to Santa Cruz community members. I had a wonderful chat at Cat & Cloud Coffee in Aptos, with two incredible leaders, Rachel Williams, Trustee for the Santa Cruz County School Board and Jenni Veitch Olson, local business owner. It's more important than ever that we work together to keep our community, education system and small businesses strong.
