Dawn Digest: June 2025 Updates
Fighting for What Matters
Many of the challenges we face today stem from the shortsighted and harmful decisions made in Washington, D.C., driven by executive orders and congressional actions that prioritize the wealthy few over hardworking families. As the federal government has reneged on its promise to protect Americans, including seniors and those with disabilities, California is committed to safeguarding its communities.
With care,
Dawn Addis
Chair, Assembly Budget Subcommittee on Health
Assemblymember, 30th District
Sacramento Highlights
The State Budget
Despite the difficulties, this year's state budget also brought opportunities to defend our values. I'm proud to share that we’ve resisted some of the most damaging proposed cuts, preserving critical services that Californians, especially on the Central Coast, depend on every day.
My Legislation is Moving Forward!
I'm honored to continue representing and working for the Central Coast. Reducing the cost of living, improving public education and health care, helping local businesses thrive and protecting our vital workforce are all urgent needs for the Central Coast. This is why I am working hard to pass legislation that will create true improvement for every Californian. Ten of my bills are headed to the State Senate!
District Highlights
When I am not legislating and managing California’s budget in Sacramento, I'm traveling across our region day in and day out to meet the needs of our local communities.
Santa Cruz County
Surfrider Foundation, Santa Cruz Chapter
It's incredible to see the community come together to celebrate craftsmanship, tradition and our connection to the coast. Thank you to all the organizers and participants of this year's Big Stick Logjam Surf Contest in Pleasure Point for keeping this spirit alive!
Daniel Dodge Sr.
I had a wonderful time with Daniel Dodge Sr., President of the Monterey Bay Labor Council, when he came from Santa Cruz to the Capitol to celebrate the labor movement.
Santa Cruz Pride 50th Anniversary Celebration
Happy 50th Pride, Santa Cruz! My husband and I recently attended a celebration of the 50th Anniversary of Santa Cruz Pride. We had a phenomenal time honoring the champions who make the Central Coast the inclusive place that we all want it to be.

Scholarship Winner Gina Guzman
Last month, I was honored to meet Gina Guzman, the 2024 Central Coast Legislative Caucus Foundation scholarship recipient, in Carmel. Gina is a nursing student, a profession sorely needed in our region.
Carmel Mayor Dal Byrne
Meeting newly elected Carmel Mayor Dale Byrne was a great opportunity to discuss how special Carmel is and how we can enhance sustainability and preserve its natural beauty.
Moss Landing
I continue to fight for our communities and work to ensure utility-scale battery energy storage is safe. Please see my recent letters to PG&E and the California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) asking for the Moss Landing facilities to stay offline and to receive an update on the investigations into the January 2025 fires.
San Luis Obispo County
League of Women Voters SLO County's Shelly Higginbotham moderated the conversation.
Healthcare Town Hall
I'm honored to be appointed the Chair of Budget Subcommittee No. 1 on Health. Recently, I held a town hall meeting to hear about local residents' concerns. The erratic destruction of the federal government is a worry for many. As Chair, I'm focused on fiscally responsible solutions that keep our essential safety net in place. Thank you to the League of Women Voters of SLO County, Dr. Bravo & Dr. Nazmi and everyone who showed up to make it a success!
Jenna Wallravin, GALA Pride and Diversity Center Board Member and Assemblymember Addis
SLO Pride!
I loved seeing old friends and new ones at SLO Pride in the Mission Plaza. I look forward to events throughout this month and next across the Central Coast. I visited several booths and met Jenna Wallravin, the newest member of the GALA Pride and Diversity Center's Board.
Executive Director David Parro, Assemblymember Addis and Practice Manager Barbara Alarcon
SLO Noor Foundation - Nonprofit of the Year
I'm honored to recognize the SLO Noor Foundation as the 2025 Nonprofit of the Year for Assembly District 30. At a time when many in our communities are struggling to access essential care, SLO Noor is stepping up to fill a critical gap by providing free, quality medical, dental and vision services to our uninsured neighbors.
Across the Central Coast
Representatives from Salinas Valley Pride Celebrations, Central Coast Coalition for Inclusive Schools, GALA Pride & Diversity Center, Tanz Central Coast, CAPSLO Teen Wellness, along with Assemblymember Addis and District Director Chmelik
LGBTQIA+ Roundtable
I convened with representatives from Assembly District 30 LGBTQIA+ organizations to hear about local celebrations as well as concerns about horrendous federal actions against the LGBTQIA+ community. I also highlighted my legislation, which has been recognized as a California LGBTQ Caucus Priority Bill.
Dear Class of 2025
You did it!
Your hard work, determination and perseverance have paid off and this season, we celebrate you and the journey ahead.
As a former teacher, I know and value and strength it takes to stay the course. The late nights, the tough choices and the moments when life got hard. But you pushed forward and now, as you step into the next chapter, remember to stay true to yourself and never lose sight of what matters the most: your FUTURE.
Congratulations, Class of 2025!
