Legislative Update

I'm authoring important policy aimed at addressing critical challenges in our state. My bill package is based on the things you have told me are important to you.

Make Polluters Pay

The climate crisis is a financial crisis for California taxpayers. This is why I'm authoring AB 1243: The Polluters Pay Climate Superfund Act. The overwhelming outpour of support from labor groups, environmental champions, business owners, doctors, nurses and regular people in support of AB 1243 clearly shows just how important it is for Big Oil to pay their fair share of the climate damages they have caused.

I am committed to continuing my work on this policy and will have more updates soon.

Protecting Farmworkers and Increasing the Public Health Workforce

AB 1336 — Farmworker Protection Act
Protects farmworkers from extreme heat by making it easier for them to get medical care and compensation if their employer isn't following safety rules. The people who put food on our tables must be treated with the dignity and respect they deserve.

AB 1288 — The Retain and Train Act
Supports the local public health workforce by expanding the number of environmental health specialists in the community. These workers were essential to surveying and monitoring the toxic pollution of the Moss Landing fire. We are grateful for their work to keep us safe.

Ensuring Education Access

AB 1391 — The Transitional Kindergarten Access Act
Ensures that every child in California has access to early learning by guaranteeing funding for transitional kindergarten (TK) in every public school district. I am proud to champion this bill as a former teacher on the Central Coast.

Supporting Local Businesses

AB 1008 — SLO Dining & Hospitality Act
Supports San Luis Obispo County's small business and tourism economy by creating new revenue opportunities that will help the Central Coast thrive.

Affordable, Reliable Transportation

AB 761Monterey-Salinas Transit (MST) Access Act
Gives Monterey County a vital tool to support public transit by ensuring MST can continue providing reliable, affordable service for riders who depend on it every day.

I had the pleasure of speaking at the Santa Cruz Land Trust Beach Ranch Acquisition Celebration. This acquisition aims to foster a resilient landscape that protects prime farmland and reduces the flood risk for our region's most vulnerable communities.

I appreciated the opportunity to attend the Monterey Bay Central Labor Council Awards Dinner. Workers are the foundation of our communities and we are committed to continuing the fight for better wages, safer working conditions and stronger protections for all.

Our press conference alongside San Luis Coastal Unified School District Superintendent Eric Prater, SLCTA, educators and parents was a huge success! We spotlighted AB 1391 the Transitional Kindergarten Access Act. I know every child deserves a strong start and I'm here to work for that.

The Capitola Community Center revamping project is making great progress! In 2023, I secured $1 million in state funding to support the City of Capitola's effort to invest in this vital community hub. These renovations will not only enhance recreational opportunities but also strengthen the Center's role as a crucial evacuation site during emergencies.
