WATSONVILLE - Assemblymember Anna Caballero recognizes the communities of Pajaro and Watsonville who are promoting early literacy for children and parents though the Paso a Paso learning App. Paso a Paso is an early literacy app in Spanish and English for the community to promote reading in children 0 years to 3rd grade.  Watsonville, Pajaro and Aptos secured a 3.5 million dollar grant and invested about $1 million dollars to place this free app in the hands of families.  In addition to truly closing the reading gap for students when they reach the 3rd grade, it is found that parents who ha

SALINAS - Assemblymember Anna M. Caballero joined the Monterey County Office of Education for the Quality Matters Recognition Celebration to recognize the 45 Early Care and Education sites that have participated in Quality Matters for the 2016-2017 fiscal year and which will continue for the next two years. The sites consist of child development programs and licensed family child care providers who have committed to continuous improvement, so they raise the high quality early learning experiences to help children grow, develop, and learn.

SALINAS - Assemblymember Anna M. Caballero joins the Salinas Union High School District Board of Trustees to celebrate the dedication of the next Middle School: Dolores C. Huerta Middle School. The Board is in the process of completing architectural renderings and will look to begin construction at the end of next year for the school to be located in the land north of the intersection of Hemingway and Boronda. Dolores Huerta was present at the event.

SACRAMENTO - I am honored to present The Urban Arts Collaborative as the 30th Assembly District's 2017 Nonprofit of the Year! The Urban Arts Collaborative empowers young artists to make a difference in their community by using the power of art to create a safer environment for their neighbors and families. Founder Juan-Carlos Gonzalez helped fund UAC with a group of young East Salinas artists in 2012. Congratulations!

SACRAMENTO - Assemblymember Anna M. Caballero honored John Goodhope as the 30th Assembly District Veteran of the Year. John is a veteran who served in the Army from 1978-1987. His nine years of service as the Stinger missile man in the 16 Sierra / Papa Red Eye Chaparral took him all over the world. He was stationed two separate times in Germany, endured extensive jungle training in Panama, completed special defense training on the island of Crete off the coast of Greece, and finished a tour in Fort Ord.
