SAN LUIS OBISPO – Assemblymember Dawn Addis (D–Morro Bay) joined community members, families, service providers, and local leaders at SLO Overdose Awareness Day on Saturday, August 30, 2025, at Mitchell Park in San Luis Obispo. The annual event, inspired by International Overdose Awareness Day and founded by Kim Lacey, brought together the community to honor the lives lost to overdose, support those in recovery, and provide education and resources to help prevent future tragedies.
"As someone whose life has been affected by addiction, I know how deeply this crisis touches our families and our communities," said Addis. "To the families who have lost loved ones, your grief is seen, your voices are heard, and your advocacy is shaping change. California has not forgotten you, and I will continue fighting for stronger policies, funding, and resources to save lives and honor the memory of those we've lost."
Dawn Addis was elected to the California State Assembly in 2022 to represent the coastal 30th Assembly District, which includes San Luis Obispo, Monterey, and Santa Cruz Counties. She is the Chair of the Assembly Budget Subcommittee 1 on Health.
