Addis Bills Advance to Senate Floor

SACRAMENTO – Assemblymember Dawn Addis (D-Morro Bay) announced that eight of her bills have advanced to the Senate floor following Senate Appropriations Committee hearings. Five bills cleared the major committee, joining three others that had already advanced as the legislative session enters its final stretch.

"While the federal government attacks our State and cuts vital programs for students, seniors, working families and tax paying Californians, people ask me all the time how I'm working to improve their lives," said Addis "I'm proud to say that each of these bills – from improving public education to bolstering public health to creating more transparency in campaign finance – is meant to make sure regular people have a fair shake at achieving the California Dream."

The eight bills advancing through the Legislature include:

AB 560: Special Education Caseloads – Lowers caseloads for resource specialist from 28-1 to 20-1, includes initial assessments in caseloads.

AB 1336: Farmworker Heat Illness Act – Protects farmworkers from the growing dangers of extreme heat by promoting compliance with existing outdoor heat illness prevention standards.

AB 1076: Qualified ABLE Program – Expands access to CalABLE accounts, making it easier for people with disabilities to save and use funds for essential needs. Allows individuals who receive CalKIDS funds but don't plan to attend college to transfer that money into CalABLE accounts, ensuring they can use it for other critical expenses.

AB 1288: Retain and Train Act – Helps ensure that an increased number of qualified individuals can continue their career protecting the community's health.

AB 1487: 2TGI Wellness and Equity Fund – Recognizes Two-Spirit identities and ensures allocated resources reach the full diversity of the LGBTQ+ community.

AB 761: Monterey-Salinas Transit Tax Cap – Allows the Monterey-Salinas Transit District (MST) to submit a measure to the voters of their district, if they choose to do so, to propose a retail transaction and use tax of no more than 1/4 –cent.

AB 808: Cal-Access Modernization and Transparency Act – Allows the public to more clearly access campaign finance reports on candidates and elected officials.

AB 1008: Alcoholic Beverages: Licenses: County of San Luis Obispo County – Authorizes additional alcohol licenses for restaurants in San Luis Obispo County.

Pending Senate approval, the bills will return to the Assembly for a final vote before moving to the Governor's desk for signature.

Dawn Addis was elected to the California State Assembly in 2022 to represent the coastal 30th Assembly District, which includes San Luis Obispo, Monterey, and Santa Cruz Counties. She is the Chair of the Assembly Budget Subcommittee 1 on Health.
