SACRAMENTO – Assemblymember Dawn Addis (D-Morro Bay), announced that Governor Newsom has signed AB 808, the Cal-Access Modernization and Transparency Act, into law.
AB 808 updates California's campaign finance and lobbying reporting system, making it easier for the public to access information, for campaigns to file reports, and for regulators to ensure compliance and supports the transition to the new Cal-Access Replacement System (CARS), a modern platform currently in development by the Secretary of State and the Fair Political Practices Commission.
"While the federal administration uses partisan tactics to silence voters and create a more opaque elections system, California is becoming more transparent and fair by the day. My Assembly Bill 808 continues to strengthen transparency and public trust in free and fair California elections," said Addis "By updating the Cal-access replacement System (CARS) to a fully digital platform we create transparency and ease for every Californian who wants to know who is funding political campaigns. This is how we strengthen our democracy. Thank you Governor Newsom for your signature."
AB 808 will go into effect on January 1, 2026.
Dawn Addis was elected to the California State Assembly in 2022 to represent the coastal 30th Assembly District, which includes San Luis Obispo, Monterey, and Santa Cruz Counties. She is the Chair of the Assembly Budget Subcommittee 1 on Health.
