"Governor Newsom's State of the State made clear that California moves forward by investing in people through education, public safety, and career pathways that support working families.
SACRAMENTO — Assemblymember Dawn Addis (D-Morro Bay) introduced her second bill of the 2026 legislative session this week to safeguard California's democratic rule in response to national rhetoric around a potential third term for the President of the United States.
AB 1539 seeks to close that gap by requiring a representative of each political party to certify, under penalty of perjury, that its nominees for president and vice president meet the constitutional requirements, including term limits.
"Despite dire warnings about the need to cut emissions and pleas to businesses to clean up their acts, it's become clear the industry cannot — or will not — regulate itself. The California Fashion Environmental Accountability Act can change that and represents a direct way for the industry to contribute to climate action."
SACRAMENTO– Assemblymember Dawn Addis (D-Morro Bay), joined by members of the legislature, the Central Coast Legislature Caucus, and community advocates, hosted a press conference at the California State Capitol in opposition to the Trump Administration's offshore oil drilling proposal.
Three days into the legislative session and we're saying, hands off California's coast. Assemblymember Addis held a press conference with Oceana to rally against new federal offshore drilling. Her colleagues along with dedicated advocates joined her to push back against the Trump administration's renewed efforts to expand offshore oil drilling.
"The truth is that we, for the first time in 40 years, have a president who is pushing to not contract, but expand oil drilling off our shores — and it's a threat to the industries that sustain us, while providing minimal economic benefit for the people, as well as disastrous consequences for public health and vulnerable marine habitats," Addis said.
MORRO BAY– Assemblymember Dawn Addis (D-Morro Bay) released the following statement following the U.S. military strike against Venezuela and the capture of Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro:
While Venezuela's leaders have caused immense harm to their own people, President Trump bypassing Congress and the American people in a direct takeover does not make us safer. We are a nation of laws, and the president must operate within, not outside of, them. American democracy is a flame that has never been blown out, and we cannot allow one man's autocratic ideation to extinguish it now.
