Avoid Scams
After disasters, scammers often create fake donation websites, social media campaigns and crowdfunding pages that mimic legitimate relief efforts. They use emotional appeals to pressure people into donating quickly, sometimes impersonating well-known charities, state officials or needy individuals.
Use these tools to verify a charity:
Reputable Contractors
As wildfire recovery efforts begin, it is important to remember to utilize a licensed contractor. Remind your friends and family in impacted areas that The Contractors State License Board (CSLB) has an online tool to verify licensing information.
Mental Health Support
Natural disasters can take a toll on mental health. Even if you are not directly impacted, you may know someone who is. Mental health services are available.
Wildfire Preparedness
Wildfires and other natural disasters can happen at anywhere and at any time. It is vital to remain informed and have a plan.
